Large bronze bushings are rarely selected from a standard size chart. Their feasibility depends on the complete part geometry, casting weight, machining requirements and intended application.
JEDBUSHING manufactures large-diameter and long bronze bushings to customer drawings. Our completed work includes wide ring-type components and long cylindrical bearings for heavy industrial and marine applications. Each new project is reviewed individually before the manufacturing route is confirmed.
Completed Large Bronze Bushing Projects
The following examples show two different types of large bronze components that JEDBUSHING has manufactured. They are completed project sizes, not published maximum manufacturing limits.
Ø5,000 × H1,000 mm Large Ring-Type Bronze Component
JEDBUSHING completed a large ring-type bronze component with an outside diameter of 5,000 mm and an axial height of 1,000 mm.
Producing a component of this scale requires more than casting capacity. The team must also consider mold preparation, lifting and handling, machining access, dimensional control and inspection. The relationship between outside diameter, inside diameter, wall thickness, height and total weight determines whether a similar part is feasible.

Ø835 × L2,480 mm Bronze Stern Tube Bearing
JEDBUSHING also completed a bronze stern tube bearing for a shipbuilding application. The part measured 835 mm in outside diameter and 2,480 mm in overall length and was produced by centrifugal casting.
This project demonstrates experience with long cylindrical bronze components as well as wide ring-type parts. A different stern tube bearing with the same length or diameter may require another production plan because its inside diameter, wall thickness, machining allowance and tolerance can be different.

Why Outside Diameter Alone Does Not Determine Feasibility
“Can you manufacture a five-meter bronze bushing?” cannot be answered by outside diameter alone. A wide, low-profile ring and a long, thick-walled sleeve place very different demands on casting, handling and machining.
The main factors reviewed for a large bronze bushing include:
- Outside diameter and inside diameter
- Overall length or axial height
- Wall thickness and changes in section
- Flanges, grooves, holes and other structural details
- Estimated casting or finished weight
- Required bronze alloy or material standard
- Machining allowance, tolerances and surface finish
- Inspection and documentation requirements
- Order quantity
Two components with the same outside diameter may therefore have different manufacturing feasibility. A drawing review is more reliable than comparing only one dimension with a previous project.
From Drawing Review to Finished Bronze Bushing
1. Drawing and Requirement Review
We review the part geometry, application, material requirement, quantity, tolerances and inspection needs. If some information is missing, the available dimensions and project details can be used for an initial discussion.
2. Casting and Process Planning
The casting method is selected according to the component shape and technical requirements. Centrifugal casting is available for suitable cylindrical bushings, while other geometries may require a different casting route. Machining allowance, handling and inspection access are considered before production.
3. Casting and Machining
The component is cast with the required machining allowance and then machined according to the confirmed drawing. For oversized parts, equipment capacity is checked against the complete geometry rather than the nominal diameter alone.
4. Inspection and Project Documentation
Dimensions and specified quality requirements are checked during production and before shipment. PT, UT and other inspection arrangements can be discussed according to the drawing, material standard and project requirements.

What to Send for a Size Feasibility Review
Send a complete drawing whenever one is available. If the drawing is not ready, provide as much of the following information as possible:
- Outside diameter, inside diameter and overall length
- Flange or other key structural dimensions
- Drawing, sketch or photographs of an existing part
- Required material grade or standard
- Quantity
- Tolerances and surface-finish requirements
- Inspection or documentation requirements
- Application and operating conditions
This information helps us assess the casting route, machining capacity and inspection plan before quotation. If only partial information is available, send it first and we will identify what else is needed for review.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ø5,000 × H1,000 mm JEDBUSHING’s maximum manufacturing size?
No. It is the size of a completed ring-type bronze component, not a published maximum limit. The feasible size of a new component must be reviewed using its complete geometry, weight, material and machining requirements.
Can JEDBUSHING review a project without a complete drawing?
Yes. An initial review can begin with the main dimensions, a sketch, photographs or measurements from an existing part. A confirmed drawing and technical requirements will normally be needed before production.
Can casting, machining and inspection be handled as one project?
Yes. JEDBUSHING can review the casting, machining and specified inspection requirements as one manufacturing project. The exact scope is confirmed during the drawing and quotation review.
