What Is a Cone Crusher Eccentric Bushing and How Does It Work?
In many cone crushers, the eccentric assembly produces the gyrating movement that moves the mantle toward and away from the concave. The bronze bushing forms a replaceable sliding surface, controls clearance and distributes oil across the contact area.
The arrangement varies by crusher. The part may be called an inner eccentric bushing, outer eccentric bushing or eccentric sleeve bushing. In some designs, it also forms part of the stroke adjustment system. The crusher model alone cannot confirm its shape, fit or material.

These conditions may indicate wear, but each must be investigated within the complete crusher assembly.

Metso identifies crusher lockup, overheated oil and bronze filings in the hydraulic-unit screen as signs of eccentric bushing burnout. It also lists incorrect oil, lubrication failure, off-center feed, excess fines, an overly small closed-side setting and incorrect rotation among possible causes.
Damage may appear at the bushing even when the root cause is elsewhere. A new part may fail early if a worn shaft, feed problem or lubrication fault remains.
What Should Be Checked Before Replacing the Eccentric Bushing?
Start with the lubrication circuit. Record the oil grade and condition; check the pump, filter, holes and grooves; and look for blockage or contamination. Inspect the bushing, main shaft and eccentric bore for scoring, transferred bronze, taper, ovality and heat damage. Check adjacent bushings and thrust parts where applicable.
Do not use one reading from the most worn area as the original size. Measure the shaft and bore at several heights and in perpendicular directions. Metso’s HP crusher guidance, for example, specifies at least four heights and two positions 90 degrees apart. Compare the results with the limits for that model.
A worn bushing may have an enlarged bore or distorted body. Copying it can reproduce the wear instead of restoring the intended fit. Follow the OEM manual or a qualified crusher technician for repair, installation and break-in decisions.
What Information Is Needed to Manufacture a Replacement?
A cone crusher eccentric bushing RFQ should include:
- Crusher make, model, serial number and version
- Installation position and OEM part number
- Drawing and revision, or clear sample photos
- ID, OD, length, steps and other geometry
- Fits, tolerances and geometric controls
- Measured shaft and eccentric or housing-bore sizes
- Bronze grade, material standard and hardness
- Oil grooves, holes and lubrication direction
- Photos of scoring, uneven wear or seizure
- Quantity, inspection documents and delivery date

Material shown on another supplier’s page is not automatically suitable. Leaded bronze bushings, tin bronze, aluminum bronze and other copper alloys have different properties. Use the original specification or a documented engineering review. Do not change the alloy based only on color, a generic table or the crusher model.
