These are tendencies, not fixed rules. Check speed, motion, load, running clearance, temperature, water, seals and the existing supply system. Lubricant data should confirm viscosity or consistency, operating temperature, and compatibility with copper alloys and seals.

How Often Should Bronze Bushings Be Lubricated?
There is no universal daily, weekly or hourly bushing lubrication interval. Frequency depends on bearing type, load, speed, temperature, duty cycle, contamination, water and supply method.
- Start with the equipment manual, approved drawing or maintenance specification.
- Record an initial check in operating hours, especially after installation or a lubricant change.
- Inspect temperature trends, noise, leakage, lubricant condition and whether lubricant reaches the sliding surface.
- Check sooner under heat, shock, dust, water, frequent starts or short oscillating motion. Extend the interval only after records show stable operation.
Continuous-duty equipment may need monitored oil flow instead of frequent manual greasing. During service, follow the approved shutdown and lockout procedure. Clean the fitting, confirm the lubricant and check that the inlet and relief route are open. Apply a controlled amount. Unexpected grease-gun resistance can indicate a blocked or misaligned passage; forcing grease may damage seals or drive contamination inward.

- Treating every bronze bushing alike. Grease may interfere with an oil-impregnated or dry-running design.
- Mixing lubricants without a compatibility check. Oils, thickeners or additives may separate or harden.
- Assuming more grease is safer. Over-lubrication can raise drag, temperature, leakage and seal pressure.
- Using a dirty fitting. New grease can carry dust and grit into the sliding surface.

- Assuming every hot or noisy bushing lacks lubricant. Tight clearance, poor shaft finish, misalignment, installation distortion and overload can produce similar signs.

Not by changing lubricant alone. Groove geometry, clearance, supply passages, seals, speed and temperature need review.
Should a new bronze bushing be lubricated before first startup?
A conventional externally lubricated bushing normally needs its approved lubricant before operation. Oil-impregnated, graphite-plugged and other self-lubricating designs should follow their own installation instructions.
Can a scored bronze bushing be reused after adding lubricant?
Lubricant cannot restore worn material or excessive clearance. Inspect the bore, shaft, wear pattern and dimensions before reuse.
